Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco's great sand seas, its high dunes rising right at the edge of Merzouga village. At sunrise and sunset the sand shifts from gold to rose to deep orange — a sight travellers remember for a lifetime.
Around the dunes lies a living desert: nomadic families, the village of Khamlia and its Gnawa musicians, seasonal lakes after the rains, palm groves and small villages at the foot of the sand. Our excursions take you there, with local people as your guides.
